JOY TAYLOR

Mrs. Joy Taylor, 85, of 301 North 8th, formerly of 1630 North 24th, died Wednesday morning (June 1, 2005) at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Born June 1, 1920 in Liberty, Illinois, Mrs. Taylor was the daughter of Roy E. and Elizabeth Smith Walton. She married Wilbur S. Taylor on March 24, 1938 in Palmyra, Missouri. He died June 1, 1998.

Mrs. Taylor was a 1937 graduate of Quincy High School. She took an active role in her community as a volunteer receptionist for the Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce and loved to help others by volunteering with Meals Plus, Blessing Hospital, the Salvation Army and the Illinois Veterans Home. On January 19, 1990, Mr. and Mrs. Taylor were honored for their volunteer work by receiving the President's Award of Honor from the Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs. Taylor and her husband owned and operated Taylor Auto Parts in West Quincy, Missouri and in 1977 they opened Jet Picture Clocks, which they owned until her retirement.

Survivors include two sons, William E.(Sandra Gross) Taylor of St. Louis, MO. and Robert Lord-Taylor of New Brunswick, N. J.; four grandchildren, Greg (Jacqueline) Taylor and Todd Taylor both of St. Louis, MO., Chris (Martha) Taylor of Arlington, VA. and Roie (Claire) Lord-Taylor of Grand Rapids, MI; and four great grandchildren, Nicole and Sean Taylor of St. Louis, MO. and Katherine and Abigail Taylor of Arlington, VA. She was an aunt and friend to many and special friend of Virgil Niewohner and his family.

Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, John Walton and Earl Walton.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 in the Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veterans Home by the Rev. Anthony Thieman.

There will be no visitation, but friends are invited to the services. Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Blessing Hospital Foundation or the Salvation Army.
