Mrs. June J. Kauffman, 87, of the Illinois Veterans Home at Quincy, formerly of Chenoa, Illinois, died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday (November 29, 2006) at the home.
Born June 19, 1919 in Orient, Illinois, June was the daughter of Earl C. Jeffers and Susan Power Jeffers. She married Marcellin J. (Buck) Kauffman on September 9, 1950. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Kauffman was a 1937 graduate of Chenoa Community High School. She was a graduate of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Peoria and later attended the Uinversity of Minnesota School of Public Health. June served her country as an U.S. Army Nurse during World War II. She participated in the invasion of Normandy in June 1944 and was stationed in Army hospitals in France. Her unit, the 108th Medical Battalion was awarded the Bronze Star Unit Citation. She was discharged after the war as a 1st. Lieutenant.
Surviving is her son Timothy M. Kauffman and his wife Dorothy of Peoria, IL. and her sister Kay Holliday of Ramsey IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Mrs. Kauffman donated her body to medical science. A memorial mass is being planned for a later date.
