KATHERINE ELAINE NICHOLSON

Mrs. K. Elaine Nicholson, 80, of 1022 Ohio, Quincy, died at 8:05 p.m. Sunday (June 14, 2009) in her home.

Born March 17, 1929 in Quincy, Elaine was a daughter of William "Ira" and Ada I. Bowman Whelan. She married Donald E. Nicholson on July 10, 1955 in Quincy. He survives.

Elaine was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ. She graduated from Quincy High School and attended Gem City Business College. She enjoyed doing puzzles, reading, going to card parties, having lunch with her friends and was active in the South Side Boat Club Ladies Aide. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Elaine had worked at Winking's Market, WGEM, and as a Crossing Guard at Irving School for several years.

In addition to her husband, Donald, survivors include two sons, Michael L. Nicholson and his wife Mitzi and Bill Nicholson and his wife Jeri both of Quincy; five grandchildren, Emily Nicholson of Atlanta, GA, Eric Nicholson and his fiance Andrea Newton, Brent Nicholson, Danny Nicholson and his companion Karri Lewis and Carrie Nicholson, all of Quincy; three great-grandchildren, Payton and Caleb Nicholson both of Quincy and Colin of Atlanta, GA; a sister-in-law, Betty Davies of Hemet, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Nicholson was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Rev. Wanda Seydel officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 in the funeral home.
