
LEO DENNIS "DENNY" JOHNSON
Leo Dennis "Denny" Johnson, 63, of 201 Sycamore, died at 6:29 a.m. Monday (March 17, 2008) in his home.
Born May 20, 1944 in Quincy, Denny was the son of Sammie and Margaret Dennison Johnson. He married Phyllis J. Howlett on February 13, 1971 in Quincy. She survives.
Denny served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, feeding the birds and working outdoors. He was an automotive enthusiast who loved to restore cars and watch NASCAR.
He was employed as a machinist for the Burlington Northern Railroad for over 18 years and was currently employed for over 21 as a private contractor machinist for Amtrak.
Survivors also include a daughter Heather Lee Johnson Baseler and her husband Scott of Champaign, IL; a son Bryan Dennis Johnson of Quincy; a brother Sammie Donald Johnson and his wife Carol of Decatur, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Patricia Crenshaw.
Cremation rites have been accorded to Mr. Johnson. Graveside memorial services will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 in the Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veterans Home by the Rev. George Tomko. Military honors will be conducted by Quincy American Legion Post #37.
