Z. LEON LOWARY

Mr. Z. Leon "Stretch" Lowary, 91, of the Illinois Vetrans Home, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday (January 19, 2008) at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.

Born August 27, 1916 in Adams County, Illinois, Mr. Lowary was the son of Thomas Zenas and Mercy Kelsy Sanderson Lowary. He married Anna M. Jewell on January 30, 1938 in Wayland, Missouri. She preceded him in death on January 27, 2006.

Mr. Lowary was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, South Side Boat Club, Herman Masonic Lodge No. 39, Quincy Consistory, Ansar Shrine Temple of Springfield, Quincy Shrine Club and a charter member of the Mini Mule Hitch. Stretch enjoyed hunting and fishing. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II.

Mr. Lowary was employed at Moorman Manufacturing for over 28 years until his retirement in 1980. Following his retirement, he worked as a delivery driver for Blessing Hospital and spent many hours as a volunteer at Blessing.

Survivors include two sons, L. Thomas Lowary and his wife Judith of Chatham, IL. and Dean J. Lowary and his wife Anna of Laurie, MO..; six grandchildren, Cheryl Alberts and her husband Mike, Susan Perko and her husband Larry, Todd Lowary and his wife Heather, Deana Saleem and her husband Kareem, Nicole Martin and Frederick Burris and his wife Deborah; thirteen great grandchildren; a brother, Earl William Lowry and his wife Vin of Oswego, IL.; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lowary was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna; a son, Gary W. Lowary; and a brother, Thomas L. "Moose" Lowary.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Steve Livengood. Burial will be in Ebenezer Centenniel Cemetery near Golden.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Wednesday morning until the time of services at the funeral home. Herman Masonic Lodge will conduct Masonic Services Tuesday evening at 7:00 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or the Shriner's Children's Hospital.
