
LERA M. DAUGHERTY
Mrs. Lera M. Daugherty, 94, of the North Adams Home, formerly of 2217 Ennis Lane, Quincy, died at 9:55 a.m. Friday (October 20, 2006) in North Adams Home.
Born September 16, 1912 in Loraine, Illinois, Lera was the daughter of Lloyd and Pearl VanBlair Smith. She married Kenneth Daugherty on June 6, 1934 in Adams County. He died on June 1, 1977.
Lera attended Grandview Baptist Church. She loved to travel and do search word puzzles. She was a great mother and friend to all who enjoyed spending time with her family.
Lera worked for many years for Unit District #4 in Mendon as a cook and school bus driver. She was the first female bus driver in Adams County and one of the first cooks to serve the hot lunch program at Mendon Grade School. She later was employed at St. Mary Hospital in the surgery department until her retirement.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Porter and Barbara Leapley both of Quincy; two sons, Danny Daugherty of Fowler and Lanny Daugherty of Quincy; eight grandchildren, Doug Porter and his wife Renee', Debbie Cooper and her husband Mike, Dana Aschenbrenner, Lera Whitaker and her husband Jeff, Heather Harris, Tim Harris, Pam Simmons and her husband Robert and Brent Daugherty and his wife Crystal; four step grandchildren, Dennis Leapley and his wife Tonya, John Leapley and his wife, Mary Kay, Travis Leapley and his wife Dana and Jason Leapley and his wife Dionne; 11 great grandchildren, Jeremy Cooper, Andrew Cooper, Julie Porter, Jennifer Porter, Jennifer Whitaker, Cody Whitaker, Kristy Whitaker, Carley Simmons, Kelsey Simmons, Megan Daugherty and Nathan Daugherty; 12 step great grandchildren, Zachary Leapley, Megan Leapley, Kyle Leapley, Kody Leapley, Michaela Leapley, Tyler Leapley, Trevor Leapley, Alyssa Leapley, Jessie Moyers, Becky Moyers, Ethan Leapley and Emily Leapley; a brother, William Smith and his wife Mary of Macomb; a sister in law, Josie Myers and her husband Carlton of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Daugherty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; a grandson, Brian Daugherty; a step great grandchild, Austin Leapley; a sister, Mildred Hill; and two sons in law, Richard Porter and John "Ed" Leapley.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Dennis Thomas. Burial will be in New Providence Cemetery near Ursa.
Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 6:00 and Monday until the time of services at the funeral home.
