MABEL G. RILEY
Mrs. Mabel Gertrude Riley, 94, of Sunset Home, formerly of 3618 South 24th, Quincy, died at 2:15 p.m. Sunday (August 23, 2009) in Blessing Hospital.
Born October 3, 1914 in Keokuk, Iowa, Mabel was the daughter of Daniel and Gertrude Wilson Hyde. She married Thomas Woodrow "Woody" Riley on April 8, 1938 in Kahoka, Missouri. They celebrated 63 years of marriage until Mr. Riley preceded her in death on April 5, 2000.
A longtime member of Vermont Street United Methodist Church, Mabel was also active with PTA and as a volunteer for R.S.V.P.
Mabel was very industrious at a young age working in the family business. After marriage and a family, her primary focus was being a homemaker and actively involved with her grandchildren. She later was employed part time at Carson Pirie Scott.
Survivors include two daughters, Jane South and her husband Erich of Atlanta, GA and Peggy Magliari and her husband Richard of Quincy; and three loving grandchildren, Tom South of Arlington, VA, Todd South and his wife Amy of Thornville, OH and Adam Magliari and his wife Lisa of Pana, IL. Mabel was blessed with one great grandchild, Elena South of Arlington, VA and three nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Riley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter in infancy, Virginia Maurine Riley; a sister, Maurine Glewe; and a brother, Wilson Hyde.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Oliver Taube. Entombment will be in the Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at the funeral home.
