MARION HAROLD BENNETT

Marion Harold Bennett, 82, of 1318 Madison died at 6:10 pm Thursday (December 10, 2009) in the Illinois Veteran's Home.

Born May 10, 1927 in Ottuma, IA. Marion was the son of William and Jessie A. Douglas Bennett. He was first married to Dorothy M. Fitzgerald and she preceded him in death. He then married Bertha L. Taft Wheat on January 13, 1994 in Yuma, AZ. She survives.

Marion served his country in the Army during World War II and Korea receiving the Koren Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and the American Legion Post in Yuma, AZ. Marion enjoyed raising birds and reading.

After his discharge from the service he was employed at the Yuma Government Proving Grounds as a law enforcement officer until his retirement in 1990.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha; two sons David Bennett and his wife Liz of Louisburg, KS,and Clark Bennett of California; one daughter JoEllen White of AK; four step daughters Shirley Pigg and her husband Mike, Kelly Berry and her husband Tom both of Quincy, Mary Foster and her husband Ron of Madrid, IA and Linda Taylor and her husband Terry of Wappapello, MO; also surviving are several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by one brother Clarence Bennett of Newton, IA.

Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Robert Bennett and one sister LaVerna Sawyer.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held Monday December 21, 2009 at 10:00 in Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veteran's Home with Rev. John Adams officiating. The Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
