M. L. WERNETH

Mary Lou "M.L." Werneth, 57, of 1113 Payson Ave., died at 2:45 p.m. Saturday (January 27, 2007) in St. Vincent's Home following a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer.

Born December 18, 1949 in Quincy, Mary Lou was the daughter of Frederick P. "Fred" and Eugenia R. Barber Werneth. Her mother died on December 18, 1949 following complications with the birth and she was raised by her Aunt Jeanette Werneth until her father married Rosemary Finnigan. Aunt Jeanette died on January 29, 2007.

M.L. was an avid reader and loved flower gardening and all kinds of music. She was known for her beautiful singing voice. M.L. loved to travel and spend time with her friends on the beach in Savannah, Georgia, but her true love was her family and friends.

A 1967 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame, M.L. worked for Illinois Bell Telephone in Quincy before transferring to Springfield and later Colorado Springs, Colorado. She lived in Booth Bay Harbour, Maine, Seattle, Washington and Savannah, Georgia and for 25 years in the Atlanta area where she worked at Macy's. She moved back to Quincy in 1995 and was employed at Bergner's in the Fragrance and Cosmetic Department and later for Brown's Furniture in Palmyra, Missouri, retiring due to ill health.

Survivors include her step mother, Rosemary Werneth of Quincy; four sisters, Carol A. Sass and her husband James and Annette M. Chatten both of Quincy, Cynthia S. "Cindy" Harness and her husband Gary of Moline, IL. and Jackie K. Murry and her husband John of Maywood, MO.; three brothers, James A. Werneth and his wife Theresa of Quincy, Frederick J. Werneth and his wife Nancy of North Yarmouth, ME. and Samuel Lee Werneth and his wife Tammy of San Diego, CA.; eight nephews, Christian Sass and his wife Allison and their children, Charlotte and Evan, John M. Lang and his wife Tonja and their children, Eddie, Michael, Jacob and J. C., Preston Werneth, Kevin Harness, Brian Harness, Robert Chatten, Aaron Werneth and Spencer Werneth; eight nieces, Jamie Worthington, Sarah Sass and her son, Jake, Amanda Roberts and her husband Doug and their children, Kyle, Kaitlin and Kaleigh, Amy Phelps and her husband William and their children, Collin, Emma and Libby, Casey Branch and her husband Richard and their children, Trey and Emily, Alicia Werneth, Andrea Chatten and Hannah Werneth; two Aunts, Lou Ann Grady and her husband Jim and Bernetta Griefer both of Quincy; many loving cousins and many many special friends.

M. L. was preceded in death by her parents; Grandparents; Aunts, Uncles and Nieces in infancy.

Cremation rites have been accorded to M.L.. A memorial service will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Mr. Denny Palmer. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Saturday until the time of services at the funeral home.
