MELVA L. FLEER
Mrs. Melva L. Fleer 75, of 823 Santa Maria Ct., died at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday (July 18, 2007) in Sunset Home.
Born October 22, 1931 in Quincy, Melva was the daughter of Lester and Hazel Reinhart Steele. She married Dale O. Fleer on October 4, 1958 in Quincy. He survives.
Melva was a member of Union United Methodist Church where she was involved with many church functions and was active with the Fidelis Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. She was an avid Cub fan and was devoted to her family, taking an active role in her children's and grandchildren's activites.
Melva was employed for 16 years at a teacher's aid in the Special Education Department of Quincy Junior High School until her retirement. She was honored for her work with children when she received the Selma Southwick Award on May 29, 1986.
Survivors include her husband, Dale; a son, David Fleer of St. Louis, MO.; a daughter, Patty Lieurance and her husband Curtis of Mendon, IL.; three grandchildren, Kelly Costigan, Andrew Costigan and Abbey Lieurance all of Mendon, IL.; a sister in law, Lois Steele of Burton, IL.; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Fleer was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harold Steele and Eugene Steele; and three sisters, Betty Roush, Emily Holzgrafe and Reba "Mikie" Brock, who died on July 16, 2007.
Graveside services for Melva and her sister Reba Brock will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 in the Burton Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Saturday morning until 9:30 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookosn Funeral Home.
