MERLE W. DISSELHORST
Mr. Merle W. Disselhorst, 74, of 633 South 20th, died at 5:04 p.m. Thursday (February 2, 2006) in the emergency room of Blessing Hospital.
Born July 10, 1931 in Quincy, Merle was the son of William F. and Frances L. Reis Disselhorst. He married Joyce E. Laaker on April 11, 1959 in Salem Church in Quincy. She survives.
Merle was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ where he had served on the church council and was a member of the Men's Brotherhood. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking, but his greatest joy came when he was with his grandchildren. Mr. Disselhorst served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.
Merle was co-owner of D&R Cabinet and Marble Company until his retirement in 1985. Following his retirement, he was a self employed cabinet maker and furniture restorer.
Surviving is his wife, Joyce; a daughter, Becky Hartley and her husband Alan of Quincy; three grandchildren, Lauren Nicole Hartley, Abby Renee Hartley and Kristina Lynn Hartley all of Quincy; a brother in law, Dale Laaker and his wife Nonie of Springfield, IL.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Disselhorst was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother in law, Russell Laaker; and a sister in law, Bobbie Laaker.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:30 in the the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Timothy White. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 and Monday until the time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Salem Church or Trinity Church.
