
MILDRED L. REED
Mildred L. Reed, 97, of Sunset Apartments, 301 N. 8th St., died at Sunday (May 13, 2007) in Blessing Hospital.
Mildred, or Marnie as many knew her, was born April 4, 1910 in Quincy, a daughter of Edmond and Grace Boren Reed. She lived in Quincy her entire life.
Throughout her childhood and most of her adult years, Mildred lived with the family of her aunt and uncle, Bernard and Olive Mae Haverland, and their children, John, Robert, and Mary Belle.
Marnie was known as a master seamstress and gardener. As a seamstress she was employed by Halbach Schroeder department store and Roy Bennett Furniture until her retirement in 1982. She specialized in sewing curtains, but was equally known for the dresses she made for the children and grandchildren of her extended family.
The product of her gift in flower raising will live on at Sunset Apartments, and at the center of her life, St. John*s Episcopal Church. The Altar Guild gave Marnie a surprise party on her ninety seventh birthday at her apartment.
Mildred is survived by the children of her cousins and their families, John and Robert (Chip) Halbach, Joy Lynn Cowan, and Robert, Susan, and Ronald Haverland. She is also survived by many friends in Quincy, particularly those residing at Sunset Apartments and fellow congregants of St. John*s.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 in St. John's Episcopal Church by the Rev. James W. Derbyshire. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church.
