NELLIE PRESTON

Mrs. Nellie Preston, 90, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of 215 Cherry, died at 11:21 p.m. Saturday (January 1, 2005) at Blessing Hospital.

Born September 12, 1914 in Perry, Oklahoma Nellie was the daughter of Bert and Edna Brown Stewart. She married Claude Preston on December 9, 1934 in Keyes, Oklahoma. He died April 17, 1979.

Mrs. Preston was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking and sewing and was a member of the Women's Sewing Group, the United Methodist Women and the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Nellie was employed as a custodian for Grace United Methodist Church from 1979 until 1989 and also worked as a home health care provider.

Surviving are two daughters, Nadine Preston of McLean, IL. and Donna Wood and her husband Craig of Kirkwood, MO.; three sons, Dwain Preston and his wife Regina, Ronald Preston and his wife Dorothy, and Lewis Preston, all of Quincy; nine grandchildren, Rhonda Pratt and her husband Randy of Spencer, IA., Paul Preston and his wife Jodi of Des Moines, IA., Renee Clark of Quincy, Dallas Preston of Des Moines, IA., Carolyn Sloan and her husband Michael of Delavan, IL., Cheri Landis and her husband David of Hoboken, NJ., Debbie Crowe and her husband John of Racine, WI., Teresa Peavy and her husband Derrick of River Forest, IL., and Laura Wood of Kirkwood, MO.; twenty one great grandchildren; and one brother, Harold Stewart and his wife Lavonia of Keyes, OK.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Ethel Mae Stewart and Lucille Perkey; and six brothers, Earl, Edward, John, Roy, Cecil and Donald Stewart.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 in the All Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veterans Home by Rev. John Adams. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at the All Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veterans Home.

Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home Activity Fund.
