NORA A. MEYER
     

     Nora A. Meyer, 67, of 3704 Queen Anne, Quincy, Illinois, died at 4:05 a.m. Monday (April 17, 2006) in Blessing Hospital.

     She was born December 2, 1938, in Ogallala, Nebraska, the daughter of Leonard Elmshaeuser and Elizabeth A. Twiestmeyer Elmshaeuser. She married John Meyer on June 26, 1960, in Ogallala. The marriage ended December, 1989.

     Nora was a graduate of Ogallala High School and then attended Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska. She retired from B. F. Goodrich, Coltec Quincy Compressor. Nora was a former employee of Mercantile Bank, First Bankers Trust and Moorman Manufacturing. She was also a former teacher at St. James Lutheran School.

     For many years, Nora was a member of the Quincy Symphony Chorus, and she enjoyed the art of needlework. Many of her beautiful framed works adorn the walls in her home. In addition, Nora was a former member of Reach to Recovery with the American Cancer Society.

     Mrs. Meyer was a faithful member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and sang in the church choir.

     Nora is survived by her dear companion of many years, Carl Stegeman, her three daughters, Susan Shantz and her husband Philip of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, Ann Meyer-Savignon and her husband Dan of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Debbie Meyer of Salt Lake City, Utah. Five grandchildren, Aaron and Laura Shantz of Kitchener, Madeleine and Nicolas Savignon of Albuquerque, and Bridget Gabrenas of Salt Lake City. Three brothers, Orville Elmshaeuser and his wife Vera of Wilton, Iowa, Roger Elmshaeuser and his wife Karren of Ogallala, Nebraska, and her twin brother Norvin and his wife Jean, also of Ogallala, Nebraska, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her close friend Joann Tharp of Green City, Missouri.

     Nora was preceded in death by her father and mother, and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

     Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church by the Rev. Larry Troxel. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

     Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and Thursday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

     Memorials in memory of Nora A. Meyer may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
