PHILLIP J. "HACK" HACKAMACK

Phillip J. “Hack” Hackamack, 83, of Quincy passed away Friday November 16, 2007 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.

Phillip was born February 24, 1924 in Canton, Mo., a son of Phillip H. and Beulah Smith Hackamack.  He married Jane Miller on February 1, 1954.

Phillip was drafted into the army in 1942.  He served bravely with his comrades in World War II; being stationed in the South Pacific.  He was awarded a purple heart for his service.  After returning home from the service, he found his nitch as a sales representative for several car dealerships including Chevrolet and Ford in Quincy.  He retired from the business after a successful 30 year career.  He also worked at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, retiring from there after 4 years.

 Phillip was busy even when he wasn’t working.  Phillip was one of the original founders of the Quincy Volunteer Emergency Corps, making him a lifetime member.  He was also a member of the Quincy American Legion Post 37 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5129.  He was also a lifetime member of the North and South Side Boat Clubs and Twin Oaks in Quincy.  Phillip enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Many hunting storied were shared with his hunting buddies at his camp in LaBelle, MO, throughout the years.  Phillip passed his love of the outdoors onto his sons and grandsons.  In his younger years, Phillip enjoyed boating on the Mississippi River.

He is survived by his three children, a son Howard Hackamack and his wife, Becky, of Quincy, a daughter, Kathy Luthin and her Husband Bill Jr., of Quincy and a son Keith Hackamack of Quincy and his fiancé, Karen Christian of Taylorville, IL.  Phillip had 8 grandchildren, Adam Hackamack and his wife, Melissa Shriver-Hackamack, Audrey Hackamack, Ashley Hackamack, Lucas and his wife Melissa Hackamack, Markie Stice all of Quincy; Beau McGinley of Springfield, IL; Paige McGinley of Mason City, IL., Kenneth (K.P.) Hackamack, USMC of San Diego California; and two great-grandchildren, Wyatt Brady and Rayleigh McGinley.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Joyce LaTurno and brother Paul Hackamack.

Graveside services with military honors will be held  Wednesday morning at  10:00 in Sunset Cemetery  at the Illinois Veterans Home by Pastor Mike Price.

Visitation will be  Tuesday evening  from 5 to 7 p.m.   at  the  Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy.

Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home Activity Fund in his name.
