ROBERT*L.*BEAN

Robert Lester Bean, 81, of 1203 Klondike Road, died at 9:25 p.m. Tuesday (October 17, 2006) in Markword Infirmary at the Illinois Veterans Home, where he had been a resident since November 2003.

Mr. Bean was born May 26, 1925 in Quincy, the youngest son of Roy and Susie Dillard Bean. He married Maxine Mae Bolin on May 18, 1946 in Payson Congregational Church. She survives.

Mr. Bean attended Quincy Public Schools and served in the U. S. Army during WW II with the 556th Engineers in the Pacific Theater, primarily in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was on the beach when Gen. Douglas MacArthur returned to Leyte Island in the Philippines.

He was employed for several years by the International Shoe Company and then by Moorman Manufacturing Company, retiring December 30, 1987.

Mr. Bean was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, where he had served as governor of the Quincy Chapter. He had been assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 20 at Grace United Methodist Church, where he had served as head usher for several years. He was a member of Melrose Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mr. Bean was an avid hunter and fisherman in earlier years and he and his wife spent several winters in Arizona and Texas after their retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine; a daughter and son-in-law, Helen Sue and Stanley Warning of Quincy; a son and daughter-in-law, Duane Lee and Rebecca Bean of Quincy; two grandchildren, Stacey Lee Smith and her husband Chad of Rainelle, W. VA. and Russell Robert Warning and his close friend Christopher C. Taber of Jefferson City, MO.; a great grandson, Kai Braxton Smith of Rainelle, W. VA.; a brother, David Bean of Kevil, KY.; a nephew; and three nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Hubert and Charles Bean; an infant sister, Betty June Bean; and a nephew.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. John Adams. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.

Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Tuesday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home Activity Fund, Blessing Hospital Foundation or the Melrose Chapel Church Building Fund.
