
ROBERT L. LONG
Mr. Robert L. Long, 82, of the Illinois Veteran's Home, formerly of Quincy, died at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday (April 30, 2008) in Blessing Hospital.
Born December 27, 1925 in Payson, Illinois, Bob was the son of Ora E. and Rose Kinder Long. He married Edith Mae Ham on December 31, 1946 in Quincy. She preceded him in death on July 18, 2005.
Mr. Long served his country as a Sergeant in the U. S. Army during WW II. He was awarded 2 Bronze Battle Stars and the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Machinist Lodge 822, enjoyed gardening and was an avid race fan.
Mr. Long was employed as a machinist at Gardner Denver for 42 years. He retired in 1988.
Survivors include a son, Larry Long and his wife Barbara of Camp Point, IL.; a daughter, Linda Anderson of Brunnell, FL.; four grandchildren, Renee Oshner and her husband Glenn of Quincy, Ryan Clark of Orlando, FL., Michelle Kasparie and her husband Jeff of Camp Point, IL. and Melissa Likes and her husband Tony of Wisconsin; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Norma Tipton and her husband Harold of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Long was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith; a brother, Gus Long; and a sister, Ruth Baker.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Chaplain Steve Disseler. Burial with Military Honors by Quincy American Legion Post 37 will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00 and Monday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veteran's Home Activity Fund or the charity of the donor's choice.
