ROBERT McCLAIN
Mr. Robert McClain, 80, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of Carman, Illinois, died at 3:10 a.m. Tuesday (October 9, 2007) at the Illinois Veterans Home.
Born December 10, 1926, in Williamstown, Missouri, Robert was the son of Arthur Glendo and Margaret Timmons McClain. He married Julia May Gregory on November 2, 1951. She preceded him in death.
Mr. McClain enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served as a machinist on board ships in the South Pacific during World War II. Later he served in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War. Robert was a life long member of the Providence Baptist Church of Williamstown, Missouri and currently became a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Quincy. He was a long standing member of the Stronghurst Illinois Veterans of Foreign Wars Post as well as the Oquawka Masonic Lodge.
Robert was employed at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Peoria for 12 years. He later worked 24 years and retired from I.J. Case Company in Burlington, Iowa as a tool and die machinist.
Surviving is a step daughter, Sylvia Courtright and her husband Bob of Clinton, IL.; four step granddaughters, Joy, Jody, Julia and Jill; a brother Joseph N. McClain and his wife Loretta of Peoria, IL; and eight nieces and nephews.
Mr. McClain was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a step son, Eddy, a sister, Helen V. Nye, and a brother Verlan McClain.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 in the All Saints Chapel at the Illinois Veterans Home.
Visitation will be held Friday morning from 9:00 until the time of services in the All Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veterans Home.
