ROBERT YOUNG
Mr. Robert Young, 72, of 616 West Turtle Lake Road, Quincy, died at 11:18 a.m. Saturday (June 27, 2009) in his home.
Born September 23, 1936 in Quincy, Bob was the son of Wilbur A. and Florence A. Gibson Young. He married LuAnn Corrigan on May 15, 2000 in Quincy. She survives.
An avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, hunter and fisherman, Bob also loved mushroom hunting, traveling, trips to the riverboat, stock car racing and gardening, especially taking care of his Day Lillies. He was a member of the International Association of Aerospace Workers Local 822 and was a former member of South Side Boat Club, Twin Oaks, Rocky Point, Ducks Unlimited and Ducks for the Future. Bob was a volunteer for many years for the Corps of Engineers and was a Ham Radio Operator using the call sign "Swamp Rat".
Mr. Young was employed as a machinist at Quincy Compressor for 38 1/2 years until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, LuAnn; two daughters, Debra Fulmer and her husband Greg and Kim Young both of Quincy; two sons, Robert E. Young and Thomas R. Young both of Quincy; three step children, Lacey Gallaher of Quincy, Andrew Gallaher of St. Louis, MO and Samuel E. Walters IV of Quincy; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; a brother, Richard Gibson and his wife Betty of San Saba, TX; five sisters, Juanita Danhaus, Florence Schaefer, Pat McDowell and her husband Melvin, Joyce McClintock and her husband Bob and Marilyn Schaefer all of Quincy; a step sister, Mary Patton of Arkansas; and many loving nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Randy Hagerbaumer.
Mr. Young was preceded in death by his parents; and his best friend, Terry Hinch.
The family will meet with friends during a visitation Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation.
Graveside memorial services will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 in Greenmount Cemetery by the Rev. Roger Selves.
Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice or to Camp Callahan.
