ROLAND-LOUIS NELSON SR.
Mr. Roland-Louis Nelson Sr., 69, of 301 North 8th, Quincy, died at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday (May 14, 2008) in his home.
Born September 27, 1938 in Pekin, Roland was the son of Lester and Mary Mace Nelson Sr. He married Mary Katherine Couch on June 29, 1957 in Joliet. She preceded him in death on July 15, 1999. He then married Yvonne Taylor in 2003 in Hebron, IN. She preceded him in death on February 19, 2008.
Mr. Nelson served his country in the Marine Corps from 1957 to 1963 and the Illinois National Guard. He attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and loved to travel and camp in his RV.
Roland was a volunteer firefighter for the Plainfield, IL fire department for many years. He was later employed as the Chief Delivery Man for the Atlantic Richfield Oil Company Arco Pipeline for several years until his retirement.
Survivors include two sons, Joseph Nelson and his wife Shaun of Quincy and Roland-Louis Nelson Jr. and his wife Judy of Joliet; four daughters.,Veronica Lynn DeChausse and her husband Justin of Morris, IL, Mary June Long and her husband Michael of North Charleston, SC, Jennifer Sue Heflin and her husband Craig of Demotte, IN, and Sandra Jean King and her husband Rob of Summerville, SC; eleven grandchildren Wayne Heflin, Daniel Heflin, Joshua Heflin, April Nelson, Heather Nelson, Sarah Lynn Snyder, Samantha Paige DeChausse, Jessica Lee Bumgarner and her husband Mike, Samantha Lynn Nelson, Nathan Joseph Nelson and Wesley Brant King; four great grandchildren David John Bumgarner, Cody Michael Bumgarner, Dalton John Snyder and Bailey Zyra Snyder; a brother Lester Harvey Nelson Jr. and his wife Helen of Pontiac, IL; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; a grandson, Lester Keith "Buddy" Hardcastle Jr.; and a grandson in law, John Snyder.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 in the Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Joliet, Illinois.
Visitation will be held Monday evening from 3:00 to 6:00 in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 210 Cardinal Terrace, Quincy, Illinois.
Memorials may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
