
RUTH A. BOWEN
Mrs. Ruth A. Bowen, 94, of the Sunset Home, formerly of 921 Sycamore, died at 2:12 a.m. Monday (January 31, 2005) in Sunset Home.
Born November 23, 1910 in Maysville, Illinois, Ruth was the daughter of Bert and Bertha Heinz Holmes. She married Joseph B. Bowen on September 4, 1937 in Troy, Missouri. He died March 8, 1971.
Mrs. Bowen was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Grace Whipple Chapter #312 Order of Eastern Star for over 50 years. She love to crochet and play solitare and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross Bloodmobile for many years following her retirement.
A graduate of the Blessing Hospital School of Nursing in 1931, Mrs. Bowen worked as a private duty nurse for two years and for the Brown Shoe Co. in Pittsfield for eight years before joining the staff of Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy on September 16, 1942. She retired in December, 1983.
Survivors include three nieces, Linda Springer and her husband Robert of Pearl, IL. Marian Meyer of Peru, IN. and Marie Williams and her husband Glen of Lone Jack, MO.; four great nephews, Mark Springer and his wife Lisa of Pearl, IL., Eric "Rick" Meyer of Fishers, IN., Rockwell "Rocky" Meyer and his wife Lynn of Goshen, IN. and David Williams and his wife Sherri of Blue Springs, MO.; two great nieces, Corinna Mountain and her husband Ron of Pittsfield, IL. and Lisa Williams of Clearwater, FL.; and several great great nieces and great great nephews.
Mrs. Bowen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Hilma Sheer and Dorothy Lippincott; a niece, Ruth Ann Lippincott; a nephew, Ronald Reuel Meyer; a great nephew, Randall Meyer; and a great great nephew, Jason Mountain.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Steve Livengood. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Thursday afternoon from 1:00 until the time of services at the funeral home. Grace Whipple Chapter #312 will conduct services immediately preceding the funeral service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice or the Blessing Cancer Center.
