REV. STANLEY JENSEN
Rev. Stanley Jensen, 96, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 2115 Aldo Blvd., died at 4:45 a.m. Monday (March 13, 2006) in Good Samaritan Home.
Born February 21, 1910 in Lake Forest, Illinois, Rev. Jensen was the son of Carl and Karen Jensen. He married Nina V. Hanson on December 26, 1933 in Indianola, Iowa. She preceded him in death on December 18, 1986.
A graduate of the Boxholm, Iowa Consolidated High School, Rev. Jensen received his Bachelors of Arts Degree and two degrees in music from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa and his Bachelors of Divinity Degree from Garrett Biblical Institute. He was an avid QHS Basketball fan and enjoyed flower gardening and bicycling. Rev. Jensen was an accomplished pianist and as a volunteer chaplain at Sunset Home, he would often play for the residents on Sunday afternoons. He also gave lessons to scores of young people. After his retirment, he frequently played for residents of Good Samaritan Home, where he was now living.
He was called to serve in Minonk, Donovan and Beaver in Illinois and Sioux City and South Marion, Iowa before becoming the Pastor at Union United Methodist Church in Quincy. During his quarter century tenure as pastor of Union UMC, Rev. Jensen married 398 couples, baptized 1602 people, confirmed 585 children and added 1823 members to the church. He led the congregation in their move from their old church site at 8th & Kentucky to their current site at 11th & State. One reason for his long term of service at Union was that he felt honor-bound to remain at the church until the new building was paid for. Rev. Jensen maintained his membership in Union United Methodist Church and regularly attended Sunday worship until a few weeks before his death.
Survivors include two brothers, Rev. Wesley Jensen and his wife Pauline of Rockford, IL. and Harold Jensen of Ottawa, IL; and twenty two nieces and nephews.
Rev. Jensen was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two daughters in infancy; a brother, Carl O. Jensen; and three sisters, Marian Jacobson, Elsie Bishoff and Carolyn Schobert.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, March 26, 2006 at 1:00 in Union United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Morwell. Private family burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Union United Methodist Church.
