STEVE HARBERTS
Mr. Steven Ray "Steve" Harberts, 59, of 862 Collins Dr. Waukee, Iowa, formerly of Quincy, died at 11:00 p.m. Sunday (May 17, 2009) in his home.
Born July 20, 1949 in Quincy, Steve was the son of John Henry and Carol Lois Kaufman Harberts. He married Mary (Kay) Schutte on November 23, 1968. He married Shari Hinton on July 7, 2001 in Dallas Center, Iowa. She survives.
A 1967 graduate of Quincy High School, Steve was an avid hunter, especially Pheasant hunting and he loved raising and training hunting dogs. Steve was also a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman.
Steve was a co-owner of River City Masonry in Quincy until moving to Des Moines, Iowa in 1990 where he was a brick mason for Forrest & Associates until his retirement due to health reasons.
Survivors include his wife, Shari; a son, John Robert Harberts and his wife Dawn of Chariton, IA; a daughter, Nicole Lynn Long and her husband Trip of Orlando, FL; three grandchildren, Dustin Harberts, Devin Harberts and Dylin Harberts all of Chariton, IA; his father, John Henry Harberts of Quincy; a sister, Sharon Kendall and her husband John of Quincy; a brother, Michael Harberts and his wife Betty of Middletown, IL; his mother in law, Pat Hinton of Quincy; two sisters in law, Lisa McDonald and her husband Dominic and Lori Kenady both of Quincy; a brother in law, Mark Hinton of New Haven, CT; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mr. Harberts was preceded in death by his mother Lois Harberts; father in law, Ron Hinton; and brother in law, Gary Hinton.
The family will meet with friends for a celebration of Steve's life on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 at South Side Boat Club, 640 South Front Street in Quincy.
