VELMA M. McCARTHY

Velma Marie McCarthy, 86, of 1440 North 10th, died at 3:27 a.m. Monday (January 7, 2008) in Blessing Hospital.

Born September 3, 1921 in Jerseyville, Illinois, Velma was the daughter of Plenny and Etau Jacobs Fischer. She married Charles F. "Frank" McCarthy on November 4, 1961 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1988.

Velma was an avid Cub's baseball fan and enjoyed watching baseball on TV.

Survivors include her son, Wendell "Sonny" Preston of Quincy; and a sister in law, Ann Winfield of Quincy.

Mrs. McCarthy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister in law, Margaret Brace.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 in Calvary Cemetery by the Rev. George Tomko.

There will be no visitation but friends are invited to the graveside services.

The Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
