VERNABELLE M. KNIPMEYER

Mrs. Vernabelle Marie Knipmeyer, 91, of the Lewis County Nursing Home, formerly of 3718 Holiday Drive, Quincy and Brookfield, Missouri, died at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday (August 19, 2009) in the home.

Born August 30, 1917 in Montgomery County, Missouri, Vernabelle was a daughter of Steven and Florence Brockman Smith. She married Merrill W. Knipmeyer on April 23, 1938 in St. Charles, Missouri. He preceded her in death on February 1, 1990.

Vernabelle was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Brookfield, Missouri and Vermont Street United Methodist Church in Quincy and was active as a Den Mother in Cub Scouts for many years.

Vernabelle worked with her husband as a bookkeeper at Knipmeyer Chevrolet and Implement Company in Camp Point, Illinois. She later worked at the Tea Room at Carson Pierie Scott.

Surivors include a son, Jim Knipmeyer and his wife Marjorie of Quincy; two grandchildren, Jill Williams and her husband Phil of Nashville, TN and Jeff Knipmeyer of Chicago, IL; three great grandchildren, Clayton Williams, Drew Williams and Hannah Williams all of Nashville, TN; a sister, Janet Zumwalt of Montgomery City, MO; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Knipmeyer was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Merrill.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Mike White. Burial will be in West Cemetery in Pittsfield, Illinois.

Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at the funeral home.
