VERNON "BOG" COOPER

Mr. Vernon G. "Bog" Cooper, 77, of Plainville, passed away at 1:10 p.m. Thursday (November 23, 2006) in Blessing Hospital.

Born December 31, 1928 in Payson, Illinois, Vernon was the son of Alexander Clarence and Bessie Fuller Cooper. He married Letha M. Hull on May 12, 1950 in Quincy. She survives.

Mr. Cooper was a member of the Richfield United Methodist Church and the United Auto Workers Local 201. He served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps during WW II. Vernon enjoyed tending to his livestock, coon hunting, fishing, playing cards and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. He especially enjoyed his birthday parties and cherished the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. Cooper was employed at Electric Wheel, a Division of Firestone Tire and Rubber for over 33 years, retiring in 1983. He also owned and operated the Cooper Fur Trading Company and Hunting Supplies for 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Letha; a daughter, Doris Black and her husband Charles of Hamilton, IL.; four sons, Vernon Cooper and his wife Nancy of Navarre, OH., Gary Cooper, Bobby Cooper and his wife Debbie and Kenny Cooper and his wife Kelley all of Quincy; thirteen grandchildren, Richard Cooper and his wife Melissa of Plainville, IL., Travis Cooper and his wife Shannon of Junction City, MO., Shawn Cooper of Plainville, IL., Tommy Rice of Kirksville, MO., Austin Black of Hamilton, IL. and Mary Riggs and her husband Bob, Mike Cooper, Beth Oakley, Steven Rice and his wife Carrie, Jodie Cooper, Josh Cooper and his wife Patty, Erik Cooper and Justin Cooper all of Quincy; seven great grandchildren, Anne Cooper, Jeremy Cooper and Quentin Cooper all of Plainville, IL., Alex Cooper and Anthony Cooper both of Quincy, Kamron Rice of Kirksville, MO. and Gavin Cooper of Salem, MO.; two sisters, Catherine Hankins and her husband Jim of Barry, IL. and Pansy Brewer of Ozark, MO.; a sister in law, Mary Cooper of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Virgil, Austin, Elmer, Arthur and Ralph Cooper; and five sisters, Edith Cooper in infancy, Emma Snow, Anna Mae Kurtz, Iola Cooper and Bertha Jarvill.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Payson by the Rev. Ron Cox. Burial with Military Honors by the Payson V. F. W. Post 2061 will be in the Payson New Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Monday until the time of services at the funeral home in Payson.
