VIRGIL L. CALVERT

Mr. Virgil L. Calvert, 83, of North Adams Home, formerly of 6807 Horseshoe Valley Rd., died at 2:40 p.m. Sunday (September 4, 2005) in the home.

Born December 25, 1921 in West Liberty, IA., Virgil was the son of Vincent R. and Hattie Mae McGowan Calvert. He married Betty Jane Church on December 31, 1941 in Kahoka, MO. She died October 10, 2003.

Virgil was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a past member of the Kiwanis Club and enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII serving in Rhineland and Central Europe.

He was the co-founder and president of Jaydon Handi Rack Company in Quincy from 1962 until his retirement in 1978.

Surviving are five daughters, Linda Schuette and her husband Kent of Quincy, Bonnie Skaggs and her husband David of Sarasota, FL., Joni McGuffin and her husband Glen of Quincy, Diana Calvert of Mendon and Cindy Brown and her husband Richard of Schaumburg, IL.; four sons, Virgil Calvert Jr. and his wife Barbara of Pekin, IL., Jim Calvert and his wife Vicki of Quincy, Brian Calvert of Independence, MO. and John Calvert and his wife Deanna of Sarasota, FL.; a daughter in law, Connie Calvert of Quincy; 25 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; two brothers, Cecil Calvert and his wife Maxine of Muscatine, IA. and Kenneth Calvert and his wife Virginia of Davenport, IA.; and four sisters, Dorothy Franz of Muscatine, IA., Maxine
Toussaint and her husband Stan of Dallas, TX., Ruth Fitchner and her husband Paul of Illinois City, IL. and Vivian Wonderlich of Iowa City, IA.; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons, Dennis Calvert and Lysle Calvert; one grandson, Gary Calvert; and two brothers, Lysle Calvert and Donald Calvert.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Dr. Stan Toussaint. Burial with Military Honors by Quincy American Legion Post 37 will be in Sunset Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 and Friday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.
