WARREN JAMES ORR

Mr. Warren James Orr, 81, of Canton, MO., died at 11:08 a.m. Thursday (November 10, 2005) in the Lewis County Nursing Home.

Born November 15, 1923 in Saverton, MO., Warren was the son of Jeremiah "Jerry" and Sarah Emaline Dunn Orr. He first married Ruby Ostrander. She died October 1, 1962. He then married Wynona Hayner on June 22, 1963 in Quincy. She survives.

Mr. Orr was a former member of the First Baptist Church in LaGrange, MO. where he served as a deacon and past superintendent of Sunday School. He was a lifetime member of the LaGrange Lions Club where he served as secretary for 10 years. Warren enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Staff Sergeant Orr was a combat veteran in WWII serving in the Philippines, Solomons, Eastern Mandates, Luzon and New Guinea receiving five Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Bronze Arrowhead. He once again answered his country's call in the Korean Conflict where he received three Bronze Stars. The President of the United States awarded his company, the 2nd Infantry Division two distinguished unit citations for it's heroic stand against the communists during the "May Offensive."

He was employed at Moorman Manufacturing for 37 1/2 years until 1986. He was then employed at O'Donnells Pest Control for five years and then at Ramsey Jones Homes, rebuilding mobile homes until his retirement in 1993.

Also surviving are five daughters, Karen Gallagher and her husband Mike of Canton, MO., Ann Dietrich and her husband David of Quincy, Brenda Shade and her husband Karl of Crescent, IA., Kathy Wiskirchen and her husband Edward of Ewing, MO. and Tina Robertson and her husband Steve of Hannibal, MO.; one son, Rick Orr of Canton, MO.; 27 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; one brother, Russell Orr and his wife Carol of Quincy; one sister, Betty Grant and her husband Jerry of Quincy; one sister in law, Phyllis Orr of Quincy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; one granddaughter, Rebecca Phillips and four brothers, Robert E., Frank, Walter and an infant Brian Orr.

Warren was loved and respected by everyone whose lives he touched. He especially cherished the time that he spent with his family and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Rev. Kenneth Ballard. Burial with military honors by Quincy American Legion Post #37 will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9:00 until 11:00 at the funeral home.
