WILLIAM "BILL" FRIES
William "Bill" Fries, 84, of 2523 Dennis Drive, died at 1:27 a.m., Thursday (December 13, 2007) in Sunset Home.
Born June 7, 1923 in Quincy, Bill was the son of Joseph and Hattie Bowman Fries. He married Esther Frankel on June 5, 1948 in Quincy. She survives.
Mr. Fries was a lifetime member of VFW Post #5129 and a former member of the Quincy American Legion Post #37. Bill served his country in the Army during WWII receiving the Bronze Battle Star for action in the South Pacific. He volunteered as a crossing guard at Adams School for several years and was a member of the Electric Wheel Retirement Club.
Bill was employed at the Electric Wheel Division of Firestone for 21 years until retiring in 1982.
Survivors include a daughter in law, Ruth Alderton of Quincy; four grandchildren, Rick Frankel and his wife Colleen of Quincy, Debbie Stehl of Quincy, Terry Schreacke and her husband Roger of Liberty and Lori Frankel of Quincy; 10 great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, a nephew Melvin Fries of Beardstown; three sister in laws, Ruth Hogge of Quincy, Shirley Gregory and her husband John of Bethesda, MD, and Mildred Frankel of Ursa.
Mr. Fries was preceded in death by his parents, a son DuWayne Frankel, and two brothers George and Joe Fries.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Steve Livengood. Burial with Military Honors by the Quincy American Legion Post #37 will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday morning from 10:00 until the time of the services at the funeral home.
