
WILLIAM F NELSON
Mr. William F. Nelson, 84, of 3333 North 18th, died at 2:40 a.m. Sunday (August 6, 2006) in Blessing Hospital.
Born March 29, 1922 in Mt. Sterling, Illinois, Mr. Nelson was the son of Dr. Harmon E. and Henrietta Rippel Nelson. He married Lucy Haerle on December 2, 1943 in Quincy. She survives.
Mr. Nelson was a member of Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church where he was a former Trustee. He was an expert woodworker, making many fine pieces of furniture and toys. Mr. Nelson served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Army during WW II.
A 1940 graduate of Quincy High School and a graduate of Gem City Business College, Mr. Nelson was employed as the Office Manager for Standard Oil Company for 21 years. He later was employed in the safety department for Gardner Denver, Cooper Industries until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Lucy; two sons, Steven Nelson and his wife Renee of Quincy and John Nelson and his wife Burnetta of Austin, TX.; two granddaughters, Vanessa Nelson and Olivia Nelson both of Austin, TX.; a sister in law, Mary Lou Nelson of Quincy; a brother in law, Charles Haerle of Quincy; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Charles "Doc", Maurice, Richard and Robert Nelson;
Cremation rites have been accorded to Mr. Nelson. Graveside memorial services with Military Honors will be held on Saturday August 26, 2006 in Greenmount Cemetery by Rev. Joe Evers..
There will be no visitation, but friends are invited to the services. The Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
