WILMA C. DUNHAM

Wilma C. Dunham, 88, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of 500 North 29th, Quincy, died at 11:40 a.m. Tuesday (May 13, 2008) in Blessing Hospital.


Born February 12, 1920, near Ursa, Mrs. Dunham was a daughter of Emil and Selma Cramm. She married Estille F. Dunham,a highly decorated Marine and POW veteran of World War II in 1947 in Salem Church.

She was a 1938 graduate of Quincy High School.

Mrs. Dunham was a personal care assistant at Blessing Hospital for 16 years and also was employed as a certified nurse's assistant (CNA) by the Illinois Veterans Home for 14 years. She retired from the State of Illinois in 1984.

Mrs. Dunham was a 70 plus year member of Salem United Church of Christ singing in the Choristers for many years. She was a past worthy matron of the Alpha Chapter of Order of Eastern Star.

Her lifelong enjoyment of music began at an early age while playing the piano and mandolin. A regular pleasure was attending performances of many of Quincy's musical groups including the Quincy Park Band, Quincy Symphony, Community Band, the Sunday Music Series and many others. Her favorites were the concerts in which her two sons performed.

Mrs. Dunham was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, and son, Bob.

She is survived by her son, Dean, of Quincy.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Wanda Seydel. Burial will be in New Providence Cemetery near Ursa.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Saturday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.
Alpha Chapter Order of Eastern Star will conduct services Friday evening at 6:30 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Robert E. Dunham Memorial Music Scholarship Fund at Illinois Wesleyan University.
