Mrs. Dorothy E. Aden, 84, of Sunset Home, formerly of 2514 Dennis Dr. died at 12:25 p.m. Sunday (March 31, 2002) at Sunset Home.

Born May 20, 1917 in Clayton, IL., Dorothy was the daughter of Deoh and Margaret Higgins Ellwood. She married Alvin M. Aden on October 29, 1937 in Paris, MO. He died February 17, 1977.

Dorothy and her husband owned and operated Brighter Rug Cleaners from 1952 until his death in 1977. She continued the business with her sons Mike and Tom until 1984. She was a certified Duncan Ceramics Teacher and taught ceramic classes for several years and owned and operated the “Ceramic Cellar” at 16th and Spring from 1969 until her retirement in 1989.

Surviving are three sons, Ronald D. Aden and his wife Vetty, Gerald ‘Jerry” Aden and his wife Shirley, and Thomas “Tom” Aden and his wife Wanda, all of Quincy; eight grandchildren, Pamela Jean Horny and her husband Andy of San Antonio, TX., Angela Barnes and her husband Blane of Quincy, Brian Aden and his wife Kathleen of Mundelein, IL., Steven Aden and his wife Shellie of Pekin, IL., Lora Aden and Kevin Schawitsch of Hamilton, IL., Curtis Aden and his wife Robin of Souix Falls, S.D., Deanna Farrell and her husband John of St. Louis, MO., and Chad Aden of Quincy; three step grandchildren, Mark Huseman, and Karen Huseman, both of Quincy, and Kim Stanley of San Antonio, TX.; 8 great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; one brother, Russell Ellwood and his wife Norma of Payson; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Aden; one step granddaughter, Marsha Huseman; three brothers, Robert, Walter, and Albert Ellwood; and two sisters, Clara Hunsaker, and Edith Buckley.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Henry Pratt. Entombment will be in Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 and Wednesday morning until the time of services at the Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Faith Christian Church, Sunset Home, or to the Quincy Public Library Outreach Department.
