Mrs. Sarah D. Allen, 103, of the Sycamore Health Care Center, formerly of 513 Hampshire, died at 7:15 a.m. Friday (March 26, 2004) in the Health Care Center. Born February 12, 1901 in Hunnewell, Missouri, Sarah was the daughter of George and Elizabeth Margaret Shannon Buckner. She was married to Crushon Allen who preceded her in death on January 7, 1961. Mrs. Allen was a member of the First Baptist Church. She worked for many years as a domestic housekeeper in Quincy and later as a cook in the Walgreens cafeteria until her retirement. Survivors include three grandchildren, Regina Buchanan James and her husband Dennis of Decatur, GA., Michele Buchanan Banks and her husband Howard of Atlanta, GA. and Clarence Willis Jr. and his wife Susan of Seattle, WA.; four great grandchildren, Jamal Person, Crushon Person, Sarah Ann Willis and Gina Miller; a great grandson, Crushon Amari Jackson; two brothers, Darrell Morris Buckner of Quincy and Harold Edward Buckner of Decatur, IL.; three sisters, Lois Virginia Minter of Hannibal, MO., Betty Jean McKinney of Denmark, TN. and Margaret Elizebeth Hale and her husband Carl of Jackson, MI.; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Lelia Ann Buchanan; three sisters, Bernadine McElroy, Francis Marie Bonds and Neola Mae Fitzpatrick; and five brothers, Roy Wilbur Buckner, George Sylvester Buckner, John Shannon Buckner, Rollo Alphonso Buckner and Lawrence Alonzo Buckner. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 in the First Baptist Church by the Rev. Orville Jones. Private interment will be in the Sunset Cemetery in Quincy. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and Wednesday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at the First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church. |
