Mr. Louis Edward "Ed" Ambrose, 73, of 1709 Monroe, died at 9:55 a.m. Saturday (April 6, 2002) in Blessing Hospital.

Born August 7, 1928 in Zion, IL., Ed was the son of Lester Louis and Bessie Mae Gates Ambrose. He married Doris June Brown on August 10, 1946 in Plymouth, IL. She died on March 13, 1999.

Mr. Ambrose was a member of Union United Methodist Church, Herman Lodge No. 39, Quincy Consistory, Ansar Shrine Temple of Springfield, Twin Oaks Club, United Commercial Travelers and American Legion Post #912 of Plymouth. He served his country in the American Merchant Marines of the U. S. Coast Guard during WW II.

Ed was employed at Hinton Motor Service and as a truck driver for Meinhardt Cartage Company. He later worked as the terminal manager for Prefab Transit Company until his retirement in 1977.

Surviving is a son, Gerald E. "Jerry" Ambrose and his wife Maggie of Quincy; a daughter, Janet S. Ambrose of Quincy; a granddaughter, Marcy Bigley and her husband Brent of Quincy; three great grandchildren, Shelby Boyd, Shay Boyd and Katie Bigley all of Quincy; two sisters, Betty Mae Koehler and her husband John and Shirley Ann Niekamp and her husband William both of Quincy; two half brothers, Frank E. Hedrick and his wife Margaret of Mansfield, TX. and James E. Hedrick of Steeleville, IL.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ambrose was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a half brother, Donald L. Hedrick.

Graveside services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 at Scott Cemetery, east of Plymouth by the Rev. Robert Morwell. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #912.

Visitation will be held Monday from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 at Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy.

Memorials may be made to Union United Methodist Church or the Stroke Club of Blessing Hospital.
