Mr. Michael Kevin Bainter, 45 , of 2225 North 12th, died at 1:11 a.m. Monday (April 7, 2003) in Blessing Hospital. Born December 26, 1957 in Macomb, Kevin was the son of Conrad and Yvonne Burkhart Bainter. Kevin was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Ducks for the Future, Ducks Unlimited and the National Rifle Association. He loved football and baseball and was an avid Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Cardinals fan, rooting for the Cardinals or whoever played the Cubs. He enjoyed the South Park Grand Prix of Carting, fishing and a cold drink with a long straw. Kevin was a 1976 graduate of Quincy High School. On September 6, 1977, he was involved in a car accident that took his ability to walk, but not his zest for life or his sense of humor. He went on to obtain his Bachelor's Degree from S. I. U. in Carbondale and was working on his Masters Degree. He was an active member of the Quincy Chapter C.C.D.I. Coalition of Citizens with Disabilities of Illinois and as a New Voices Peer Counselor for West Central Illinois for Independent Living. Kevin was a pleasure to be with and was known for his generous heart and bright spirit, gifts that continue following his death through the Gift of Hope. For the past 25 years, Kevin always said he was successfully unemployed. Surviving is his mother, Yvonne Bainter of Quincy; three brothers, Kent Bainter and his wife Judy and their children, Dylan and Kara of Quincy, Bruce Bainter and his wife Christy and their children, Brittany and Taylor of Bolingbrook, IL. and Brian Bainter and his wife Tami and their children, Amber, Breanne and Dyson of Quincy; a sister, Penny Lock and her husband Jim and their daughter, Alexis Bainter Gallamore of Springfield; an Uncle, Carl Bainter of Blandinsville, IL.; an Aunt, Mariana Schrader and her husband Ken of Avon, IL.; and three cousins, Kim Schrader of Galesburg, Kari Payne and her husband David of Asheville, N. C., and Marshall Schrader and his wife Julie of Monmouth, IL.; and many other loving family and friends. Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Conrad Bainter; his paternal and maternal grandparents; and a cousin, Kelly Schrader. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Rod Bakker. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, West Central Illinois for Independent Living or Y.M.C.A. Youth Baseball. |
