| Mr. Gilbert Gordon Barker, 65, of Payson, died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday (July 2, 2002) in Memorial Hospital in Springfield. Born February 19, 1937, in Pike County, IL., Gilbert was the son of James and Clarissa Gray Barker. He married Joyce Schreacke on May 7, 1960 in Quincy. She survives. Mr. Barker was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. He was a 1955 graduate of Payson-Seymour High School and member of the Payson V.F.W. #2061. He was an Adams County board member for 25 years and also served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Barker was a grain and livestock farmer in the Payson/Plainville area for 40 years and was employed as a maintenance foreman for the Illinois Department of Transportation for 30 years retiring in 1997. Also surviving are two sons, Greg G. Barker and his wife Linda of Baylis; and Jeff A. Barker and his wife Dawn of Barry; four grandchildren, April Barker of Baylis, and Chanse Barker, JoDee Barker, and Regan Barker, all of Barry; and one brother, Gary Barker and his wife Jackie of Pittsfield. He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Lynn Riley Barker; and one brother, Kermit Barker. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9:15 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and at 10:00 in St. Anthony Catholic Church by the Rev. Adrian Fischer. Burial with Military Honors by the Payson V.F.W. #2061 will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 until 8:00. A Christian wake service will be held at 4:00 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to St. Anthony Catholic Church. |
