Mr. Leland "Lee" Beckman, 77, of 3400 State, died at 11:16 a.m. Wednesday (February 18, 2004) in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born March 1, 1926, in Quincy, Lee was the son of Edward H. and Bertha Brockmeyer Beckman. He married Joann Herleman on June 7, 1947 in Luther Memorial Church in Quincy. She survives. Lee was a member of South Side Boat Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially loved to deer hunt with his son, son-in-law, and grandsons. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII seeing action in the Battle of the Bulge where he received the Purple Heart. Mr. Beckman was employed as a truck driver for Meinhardt Cartage Company for 23 years. He later worked for Hannibal-Quincy Truck Lines until retirement in 1984. Surviving is his wife; a son, Bradley Leland Beckman of Quincy and his fiance' Cindy L. Peters of Hannibal, MO.; a daughter, Laura Sue Zoller and her husband Douglas of Quincy; four grandchildren, Gregory Beckman and Emily Beckman of Quincy, Lindsey "Zoller" Ruffcorn and her husband Mark of Gilbert, AZ., and Clint Zoller of Quincy; and two sisters, Arlene Tenk and Bea Arnold of Quincy. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy Wellman; and one brother, Edward Beckman. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Rev. Dale Wellman. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The Blessing Foundation for Hospice or to the charity of the donor's choice. |
