Mr. Ralph Bentley, 82, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of 722 North 6th, died at 12:50 a.m. Saturday (June 1, 2002) in the Veterans Home.

Born October 29, 1920 in Knox City, MO., Ralph was the son of Rufus and Anna Metcalf Bentley. He married Violet Schoonover in September 1952 in Palmyra, MO. She died February 2, 1996.

Ralph was a self employed painter for many years. He was a member of the Illinois District Association of the Blind. Mr. Bentley served his country in the U. S. Army in WW II and Korea, landing on Omaha Beach in the Normandy Invasion on D Day. He received two Purple Hearts.

Surviving is a friend, Anabelle Ames of Quincy; and a brother, Derrald Bentley of Quincy.

Mr. Bentley was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, Barney Bentley.

Cremation rites were accorded Mr. Bentley. Graveside memorial services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 in Greenmount Cemetery by the Rev. Charles Baker. Military honors will be by the Quincy American Legion Post #37.
