| Mrs. Nellie M. Brinkman, 84 of St. Vincent's Home, formerly of 920 Cedar Creek Drive, died at 12:25 a.m. Wednesday
(February 20, 2002) in the home. Born September 4, 1917 in Paris, MO., Nellie was the daughter of Ray and Jennie Bell Dowell Shortridge. She married John Henry Brinkman on June 1, 1940 in Hannibal, MO. He died October, 1955. Nellie was a member of All Saints Parish. She was a graduate of Quincy High School and attended Quincy College. Nellie was a long time member of the American Business Women's Association and was elected Woman of the Year in 1978. She also volunteered for the Head Start Program for many years and was active with the Salvation Army. She was a 30 year member of RSVP, serving on the Advisory Council. Mrs. Brinkman was inducted into the RSVP Hall of Fame in 1999. Nellie was employed as a Case Worker for the Department of Human Services for 23 years, retiring in 1980. Surviving is a son, John R. Brinkman and his wife Laurel of Foster City, CA.; two daughters, Donna F. Davidson of Quincy and Mary Sue Miller of El Cajon, CA.; seven grandchildren, Robert J. Glover and his wife Susan of Ewing, MO., Greg A. Glover and his wife Anna of Las Vegas, NV., Cynthia Glover of Quincy, Catherine Brinkman of Los Angeles, CA., John D. Brinkman of Foster City, CA., M. Tucker Miller of West Palm Beach, FL. and Tera Miller of El Cajon, CA.; two great grandchildren, Matthew Glover and Jessica Glover both of Ewing, MO.; a brother, Ray Shortridge and his wife Marge of Quincy; four sisters, Thelma Crouch and her husband Sam of Maywood, MO., Maybelle "Chick" Selby of Ewing, MO., A. Betty Geisendorfer and Marie Fielding both of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Brinkman was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a son, Roy Keith Brinkman. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 12:30 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and at 1:00 in All Saints Parish by the Rev. Robert Jallas. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday until the time of services at the funeral home. A Christian Wake Service will be held Friday evening at 4:00 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to All Saints Parish or the charity of the donor's choice. |
