Mr. Everett H. Cady, 88, of the Sycamore Health Care Center, formerly of 3017 Bluff Ridge Drive and Ursa and Huntsville, died in Blessing Hospital at 4:30 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2003. He was born April 23, 1914 in rural Camden, Illinois to Elizabeth (Stone) and Everett Foster Cady. He was educated in Camden schools. On July 2, 1943, Everett Harold was married to Elsie M. Duncan at the Methodist Parsonage in Galesburg, Illinois by the Rev. Raye Reagan. She survives. Mr. Cady served with the 2nd Indianhead Division during WW II from 1941 to 1945. He received a Bronze Battle Star with the 44th Infantry Division and the European-African- Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with four Bronze Battle Stars. He was wounded in action in Northern France in 1944 and received the Purple Heart. After the service the couple established a home in Huntsville. Harold, as he was known in that area, was a Railway Mail Clerk on the Chicago, Ft. Madison, Kansas City run until they took the mail off of the train service, when he was transferred to the Quincy Post Office. In 1968, the family moved to Ursa, and he retired from the Postal Service in January, 1975. Everett maintained the Ursa Park for several years from it's inception. He was the custodian at Mendon State Bank and North Adams State Bank from it's chartering to the end of 1993. The couple relocated in Quincy in August, 1999. Everett Harold was dad to; Larry Lee, who is deceased, Gary Linn and his wife Jeri of Walls, MS., Roger Eugene, who is deceased, Richard Wayne and his wife Theresa of Eldridge, IA., Neil David of Columbia, MO. and Nancy Louise Schmidt of Columbia, MO. He was the Grandpa to Cory S. Cady, serving with the U. S. Army in Korea, Leanne Cady of Rock Island, IL., Angela Cady and Melissa Bandy of Brighton, TN., Joel Cady of Walls, MS., Michelle Haddock of Bolingbrook, IL. Heather Lemmon of Carrollton, TX., Aaron Cady of IL., Daron Cady of Peoria, IL., Dan Cady serving with the U. S. Marine Corps in Kuwait, and Rebecca Schmidt, a student at Western Illinois University in Macomb, and a Great Grandpa to Mycal Jr., Zakaryy and Jaykob Bandy, Alexis and Tommy Haddock and Dayton Cady. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Everett was a member of Zion United Church of Christ where he served on the board and sang in the choir, the Ursa Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Award, the West Central Illinois Chapter 361 of NARFE, and Bear Creek American Legion Post 823. He was happiest with family, gardening, maintaining lawns, scooping snow and reminiscing with Co. K, 38th Infantry army buddies. Everett Harold was the last of his family, being preceded in death by six sisters, Golda Ridings, Edith Davis and her infant twin, Orpha Sponamore, Clara Morrell and Meda Hare, a younger brother, Richard and a son in law, James Schmidt. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:00 in Zion United Church of Christ by the Rev. Jack Perdue. Burial will be in the New Providence Cemetery near Ursa. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 4:00 to 6:00 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy and Monday from 12:00 Noon until the time of services at the church. Memorials may be made to the Zion United Church of Christ. |
