MELVIN A. CAINE
 
Mr. Melvin A. Caine, 72, of 1502 Penthouse Dr., died at 4:52 a.m., Wednesday (May 22, 2002) in Blessing Hospital.

Born January 18, 1930, in Quincy, Melvin was the son of John Edward and Gladys Gertrude Mason Caine. He married Doris Buss Barry on February 14, 2002, in Deland, FL. She survives.

Mr. Caine was a member of South Side Boat Club and the Loyal Order of Moose. He served his country in the National Guard and the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

A graduate of the Chicago Barber College, Mel owned and operated Mel's Barber Shop at 7th and York and then owned the Auto Company for many years until his retirement.

Surviving are three daughters, Jana Huelskoetter and Michael of Chatham, IL., Melody Schlueter and her husband Gene Jr. of Quincy and Jean Heaton and her husband Steve of Deltona, FL.; a son, Steve Caine of Quincy; a step daughter Renee Goertz and her husband Rick of Ursa; two step sons, Don Barry of Quincy, and Monte Barry and his wife Tena of Ursa; two grandchildren, Dianna Cunningham of St. Louis, MO., and Kelly Hoener of Rosewell, GA.; four step grandchildren, Matthew. Madison, and Mallory Goertz, all of Ursa, and Sascha Barry of Ursa; two brothers, Charles Chester Caine and his wife Carolyn of Quincy, and Louis Edward Caine and his wife Catherine of Springfield, IL.; one sister, Bette Lee Peters of Quincy; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Danyel Hoener Ruscoe; two brothers, Jim and Carl Caine; and a sister, Edith Runquist.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Terry Caine. Burial with Military Honors by Quincy American Legion Post #37 will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Friday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
