BETTY JANE CALVERT
 

Mrs. Betty Jane Calvert, 79, of 6807 Horseshoe Valley Road, died at 1:15 p.m. Friday (October 10, 2003) in the North Adams Nursing Home in Mendon.

Born February 24, 1924 in Muscatine, Iowa, Betty Jane was the daughter of James Ray and Lola Nickerson Church. She married Virgil L. Calvert on December 31, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri. He survives.

Mrs. Calvert was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing the piano and listening to Gospel music and loved to read, grow flowers, and do crafts and crossword puzzles. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother devoted to her family.

Survivors include her husband, Virgil; five daughters, Linda Schuette and her husband Kent of Quincy, Bonnie Skaggs and her husband Dave of Sarasota, FL., Joni McGuffin and her husband Glen and Diana Calvert all of Mendon and Cindy Brown and her husband Richard of Schaumburg, IL.; five sons, Virgil Calvert Jr. and his wife Barbara of Pekin, IL., Dennis Calvert and his wife Connie and Jim Calvert and his wife Vicki all of Quincy, Brian Calvert of Independence, MO. and John Calvert of Sarasota, FL.; twenty five grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; five sisters, Ramona McNealy of Las Vegas, NV., Shirley Herlein and her husband Bob, Yvonne Curry, Myrle Belknap and her husband Chuck and Mary Roth all of Muscatine, IA.; four brothers, David Church and his wife Kay, Harry Church, Albert Church and his wife Pat and Frank Church and his wife Chris all of Muscatine, IA.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Calvert was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lysle Calvert; a grandson, Gary Calvert; her step mother, Evelyn Church; and two brothers, Jim Church and Kenneth Church.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice or the Veterans of Foreign Wars Activity Fund at the Illinois Veterans Home.
