NANCY CHRISTIE
Mrs. Nancy P. Christie, 73, of 234 South 16th, died at 8:05 p.m. Thursday (July 5, 2001) in Blessing Hospital.

Born July 5, 1928, in Peoria, Nancy was a daughter of Walter J. and Raph Mary Swearingen. She married Robert J. "Bob" Christie on January 2, 1951 in Quincy. He survives.

Nancy was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and was a graduate of Quincy Senior High School and Gem City Business College. She had been employed as a secretary at the J.H. Miller Mfg. Co. in Quincy and the Brown Shoe Mfg. Co. in St. Louis. After raising her children, she served as a teacher's aide in the Special Education Department of the Quincy Public Schools and retired after 27 years of service.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Gretchen McGee and her husband Michael, and their two daughters, Laura and Molly McGee all of Quincy, and Melissa Walton and her husband Jay, and their son Sam, all of Quincy; and a son, Robert "Rob" Christie V and his wife Deanna, and their two sons Ryan and Nicholas, and their daughter Sarah, all of Wheaton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Peggy Swearingen, and a son, Walter J. "Huck" Christie.

Nancy was a dedicated friend to many. She was known for her bright spirit and sense of humor, and her love of children of all ages and abilities. Her work with mentally challenged children was widely known and rewarded with lifelong affection. She was an organizer and charter member of Quincy's infamous "Purple Ladies Social and Cultural Club" and a former member of the Quincy Service League.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 9:30 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and at 10:00 in St. Francis Catholic Church by the Rev. James Wheeler. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Monday until the time of services at the funeral home. A Christian Wake Service will be held Sunday evening at 5:00 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Adams County Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC).
