Mrs. Gladys L. Connell, 71, of Timber Point Health Care Center, formerly of 507 N. 66th, died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday (July 19, 2003) in Blessing Hospital. Born June 23, 1932 in Lakeview, S.D., Gladys was the daughter of Joe F. and Anne Helmhout Hoekman. She married Robert W. Connell on September 6, 1953 in Rockford, IL. He died February 18, 2000. Mrs. Connell was employed in the kitchen at Quincy Country Club and was the head cook at the Flamingo Restaurant for several years before retiring in 1986 due to ill health. Surviving is one daughter, Connie S. Sohn and her husband Tony of Quincy, two sons, David W. Connell and his wife Judy of Rockford, IL., and Robert L. Connell and his fiancé Jessi of Quincy; fifteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three brothers, Marvin Hoekman and his wife Jean of Beloit, WI., Donald Hoekman and and his wife Shirley of Milwaukee, WI., and Leroy Hoekman and his wife Nancy of Sun Prairie, WI.; two sisters, Dena Hoekman of Clinton, WI., and Ida Johnson and her husband Don of Rockford, IL.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Harlan Connell; two granddaughters Christina Connell, and Jessica Bridgeman; three brothers, Fred, John, and Andy Hoekman; and two sisters, Minnie Kelderman, and Josephine Westra. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Rev. George Tomko. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Monday afternoon from 12:00 until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. |
