Miss Rose T. Davis, 96, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of Payson, died at 10:55 a.m. Tuesday (September 9, 2003) in Blessing Hospital.

Born November 4, 1906 in Payson, Rose was the daughter of Alfred and Mary A. Noeller Davis.

Rose was a member of the Payson United Methodist Church, Y. W. C. A, a life member of the Good Samaritan Home Association and Auxiliary, and the local, state and national Retired Teacher's Associations. She was a former member of the Payson Garden Club, the B. & P. W. Club, A. A. U. W. and the Alpha Theta and Sigma Chapters of Delta Kappa Gamma Societies of Illinois. Rose was a volunteer with the American Red Cross Gray Lady Organization at Good Samaritan Home, R. S. V. P. and was a tutor with the John Wood Literacy Program. Rose enjoyed traveling making many trips throughout the years to Europe, Canada, Mexico and all of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. She made many driving trips to Florida,Texas, Missouri and Colorado.

Rose was a 1925 graduate of Seymour High School in Payson, Western Illinois University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education, and she received her Master's Degree from the University of Illinois.

Rose taught school for 40 years in Adams County, Macomb, Jacksonville Crystal Lake, IL. and Hannibal, MO. Following her retirement, she was a substitute teacher for the Quincy Public Schools.

Surviving is a brother, George Davis and his wife Mildred of Quincy; five nieces, Doris Vahle and her husband Robert and Joyce Stephens and her husband Richard all of rural Quincy, Diane Garner and her husband Russell of New Canton, IL., Cheryl Ravenschlag and her husband Ralph of Ft. Collins, CO. and Carol Rowbotham and her husband Gene of Protem, MO.; two nephews, G. Neil Davis and his wife Pat of Quincy and Jon Rae Davis and his wife Charlet of Springfield, MO.; a sister in law, Cordella Davis of Protem, MO.; a niece in law, Cora Davis of St. Charles, MO.; and several great nieces and great nephews and great great nieces and great great nephews.

Miss Davis was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Edgar Davis and Austin Davis; two sisters, Alma Davis and Elsie Wright; and a nephew, Barry L. Davis.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Payson by the Rev. Ron Cox. Burial will be in the Payson New Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00 and Monday until the time of services at the funeral home in Payson.

Memorials may be made to the Payson United Methodist Church or the Good Samaritan Home.
