RUTH K. DAVIS

Mrs. Ruth Kathryn Davis, 91, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 1659 Kentucky, died quietly at 5:20 p.m. Saturday (November 3, 2001) in Good Samaritan Home with her family at her bedside.

Ruth was born August 17, 1910 in Quincy, Illinois, the only child of Albert and Elsie Scharnhorst Fredricks. She married George Meredith Davis on March 7, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri. He died January 23, 1996

She attended Quincy Senior High School where she was a member of the Hypatia Literary Society.

While her husband served in WW II, she worked at Mueller Drug Store. She later worked as a cook at Adams School. She retired from the Receiving Department at State Street Store in 1985, after 15 years.

Ruth was a splendid mother and devoted wife. While raising her two sons she was active in the Irving School PTA and was a member of its Board. She was also a Den Mother and was active in the Salem Church Cub Scout Program.

As a member of Salem Church, she was active with the Salem Women's Guild and other church organizations. She willingly provided support and assistance to her husband's church activities with the Salem Church Council, Salem Brotherhood and the church's Boy Scout Program.

One of her frequent comments was, "I am what I am". What she was, was a genuine lady. Ruth loved life and was quick to offer a helping hand and a friendly smile. Her kind words were uplifting, and when asked, her motherly counsel was soothing. She'll be lovingly remembered.

Ruth is survived by two sons, Rod Davis and his wife Debbie of Quincy, and Tom Davis and his wife Sheila of Atlanta, Georgia; and two grandchildren, Nick Power of Quincy and Meredith Katherine Davis of Atlanta, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Stephen Schuette. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation or the Salem Women's Guild.
