| Mr. Henry Hiram Decker, 92,
of Quincy, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday
(November 6, 2004) at North Adams Home.
Born April 21, 1912 in Durham, MO., Henry was the son of Hiram Wesley
and Anna Louise Gnuse Decker. He married Vada E. Cannell on September
27,
1940 in Bowling Green, MO. She survives.
Henry attended Quincy High School where he lettered in baseball and
basketball. He later played baseball for the Soldiers and Sailors Home
team
from 1930 until 1933, the Junior Indians in 1934, and the Quincy Bluebirds
from 1936 until 1940. Henry was a member of the Union United Methodist
Church and was an active member in the the Bee Keepers Association. He
was
also active in school activities at Payson Grade and High Schools. He
was
President of the Parent Teachers Association and served on the school
board
from 1960 until 1969. He and his wife enjoyed gardening and traveling
throughout the United States. Mr. Decker joined the Civilian Conservation
Corps in 1933 and spent 14 months in the Mount St. Helen Washington area.
After that he was employed by the Marblehead Lime Company for 40 years
until
his retirement in 1975.
Also surviving are two daughters, Judy J. Decker of Quincy and Mary
L.
Ealy and her husband John of Glidden, IA.; three grandchildren, Jennifer
Gerken and her husband Jeff of Papillion, NE., Sara J. Ealy of Quincy,
and
Jeff Ealy and his wife Kelly of Omaha, NE.; one great grandson, Jack Gerken
of Papillion, NE.; and two sisters, Lena Kroencke of Palmyra, MO, Anne
Maas
of Mendon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Helen Silvey.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 at the Zehender
Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral by Rev. Robert Morwell. Burial will be
in
Franklin Cemetery near Marcelline.
Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 at the
funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Children's Department at the Quincy Public
Library, Union United Methodist Church, or North Adams Home.
