Miss Melva L. Dierkes, 88, of 336 South 12th, died at 4:00 a.m. Saturday (July 27, 2002) in Blessing Hospital.

Born September 3, 1913 in Quincy, Melva was the daughter of William and Hannah Bocker Dierkes.

Melva was a member of the First Church of Christ Science. She enjoyed reading, sewing and dining out with friends.

A graduate of Quincy High School, Melva earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from W. I. U. and her Masters Degree from the University of Illinois. She was a history teacher and Department Chairperson at East St. Louis High School for many years until her retirement in 1974.

Surviving are several cousins, including, Lura Mae Buxman of New London, MO., Stan Buxman and his wife Karyn and their children, David and Adam of Hannibal, MO., Janice Watkins and her husband Jim and their children, Jared and Jamie of Greensboro, N. C., and Diane Campbell and her husband Doug of Palm Bay, FL.; and many loving friends.

Melva was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:00 Noon until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the First Church of Christ Science or Blessing Hospice.
