Mr. Garner Disselhorst, 89,
of the Good Samaritan Home Cottages,
formerly of 1852 Broadway, died at 5:39 a.m. Tuesday (June 15, 2004) in
Blessing Hospital.
Born February 6, 1915 in Quincy, Garner was the son of John F. and
Laura Bangert Disselhorst. He married Ruth Oitker on February 3, 1940
in
Ewing, Missouri. She survives.
Garner was a well known farmer and livestock breeder for many years
in
the Ellington Township area and had served three terms on the Adams County
Board. He was a Past President of the Illinois Hereford Association and
the
Western Illinois Hereford Association. He served as an advisor to the
National Hereford Association, and was a life member of the Land of Lincoln
Livestock Board. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge No. 100 and was
a
former member of the Quincy Boat Club and several recreational vehicle
groups.
Garner was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ. He
was a
member of Lambert Masonic Lodge No. 659, Quincy Consistory, Ansar Shrine
Temple of Springfield, Quincy Shrine Club, Ansar Shrine Belgian Hitch
and
the Quincy High Twelve Club. He was especially active and took great pride
in the Belgian Hitch.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Quincy; and several nieces and
nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Disselhorst was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers,
Lloyd Disselhorst and Grant Disselhorst.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 at the Zehender
Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Rev. Steve Disseler. Burial will
be
in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 and Friday
morning until the time of services at the funeral home. Lambert Masonic
Lodge No. 659 will conduct Masonic Rites Thursday evening at 7:00.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital, Good Samaritan Home, or
the
charity of the donor's choice.
