VIRGINIA R. FRANCIS
 

Mrs. Virginia R. Francis, 88 of Sunset Home died at 1:15 a.m. (Thursday,
September 16, 2004) at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

Born August 26, 1916 in Savannah, MO, Mrs. Francis was the daughter of
Samuel F. and Marguerite Krumbach Russell, now deceased. Virginia moved to
Quincy in the sixth grade. She graduated from Quincy High School in 1934 and
from Gem City Business College in 1935. She maried Jerl H. Francis July 25,
1938 in Naperville, IL.

Virginia worked for three years in the State Civil Service Department
in Springfield. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of
Quincy for 78 years where she served as one of the first women elders,
Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. She was president of
the Women's Association and a member of Mariners. She served as a Girl Scout
leader and was on the board of the Two Rivers Council of Girl Scouts. She
was also a board member of the Adams County Heart Association and on the
first board of the Quincy Area Habitat for Humanity.

Mrs. Francis entered Sunset Home in 1997 and was a member of the
Resident Council and the Food Committee there. Her passions were her faith,
her family, a love of learning, and young people.

Her beloved husband, Jerl H. Francis, preceded her in death in 1997.
Survivors include a son, Kent R. Francis and his wife Karen of The
Woodlands, TX, a son, Thomas L. Francis and his wife Joan of San Diego, and
a daughter, Virginia Carrillo and her husband Patrick of Tucson, AZ.
Grandchildren Michael K. Francis of Appleton, WI, Kathy Hendricks and her
husband Richard of Shreveport, LA, Monte J. Francis of Clovis, CA, Matthew
R. Francis of New York, NY, Scott T. Francis and his wife Beth of Kennesaw,
GA, Kevin L. Francis and his wife Meca of San Diego, CA; two
step-grandchildren, Todd Knuth of Cleveland, OH, and Becky Kristynik of
Austin, TX. There are six great grandchildren, Lauren and Adam Francis,
Nathan and Samuel Hendricks, Kyle Johnson and Cole Francis.

Survivors also include two sisters, Rosemary Schmidt and her husband
Robert of Ft. Wayne, IN, Mary Sybil Beebe and her husband Robert of
Coronado, CA, and three brothers, Samuel F. Russell, Jr. of Atlanta, GA,
Norman Keith Russell and his wife Winifred of Augusta, GA, and Charles K.
Russell and his wife Ruth of Murrysville, PA. There are 17 nieces and
nephews.

Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the First
Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Rod Bakker and Rev. Kevin McGinnis.
Entombment will be in the Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson
Funeral Home on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Monday morning
from 9:30 until the time of services at the church.

Donations may be made in her honor to First Presbyterian Church Sunday
School Fund or to the Quincy Area Habitat for Humanity.
